Three days exploring Lunigiana, a land located in northern Tuscany, between Prehistory and the Middle Ages, also crossed by the poet Dante Alighieri during his exile.
Day 1:
Arrival and accomodation at the hotel. In the morning, visit to the historical center of Pontremoli with its medieval bridges and the Museum of Stele Statues, stone monuments dating back to the 4th millennium BC. Afterwards, visit to Mulazzo, one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, which hosted the famous poet Dante Alighieri. Lunch break in a restaurant with local products. In the afternoon, visit to the Lusuolo Castle, a fortress built to control the ford of the river Magra and the Via Francigena. Afterwards, visit the fortified village of Filetto, of Byzantine origin, and then to Bagnone, a medieval village crossed by the stream of the same name. Before returning to the hotel, visit the Romanesque parish church of Santo Stefano di Sorano, where two Stele Statues are preserved.
Day 2:
The second day is dedicated to Eastern Lunigiana. In the morning, after breakfast, visit to the historic center of Fivizzano with its Medici square and the former Augustinian convent, where you can visit the library, the Museum of Sacred Art, and the Meteo-Museum dedicated to the meteorologist Bernacca. Stop at the Clementi Pharmacy to taste the famous "China", produced since 1884. After lunch in a typical restaurant, we reach Equi Terme. Here, venturing into the heart of the Apuan Alps, you will visit a karst cave, modelled by the action of water, with stalactites, stalagmites, and other concretions of different shapes.
Day 3:
After breakfast at the hotel, visit the village of Fosdinovo, the only one in Lunigiana with a view of the sea. From the village, you can admire a panorama that stretches from Liguria, with the Gulf of Poets and Porto Venere, to the Tuscan islands, such as Gorgona, Elba, and Capraia. On clear days, you may even be lucky enough to see Corsica! The visit will continue inside the Malaspina Castle, where the history of this important feudal family of Lunigiana and the presence of Dante Alighieri in these places, also portrayed in the frescoes that adorn the castle hall, will be told.
Comfortable shoes, a sweatshirt or jacket are mandatory for the cave excursion.
Rates for single and triple rooms, and child pricing available upon request.
The tour will start when the minimum number of participants (10) is reached
