Turtzioz Spain

Is a town and municipality located in the province of Biscay, in the Autonomous Community of Basque Country, northern Spain, surrounded by other municipalities of Biscay and Cantabria. Trucios-Turtzioz manages a relatively rich monumental heritage, above the average of the municipalities of Biscay. Within it, residential architecture is a generous chapter, made up of a long dozen elements of high interest, palaces of great size, large, surrounded by gardens and well-worked in stonework. The religious architecture may not reach that high level, but it is well represented by a parish church, which is considered a Provincial Monument, and four hermitages, one of them, Santo Cristo de La Puente, of outstanding character. The monumental heritage does not cover the entire spectrum of art history; on the contrary, we know nothing of medieval architecture, and the oldest are the testimonies halfway between the Gothic and the Renaissance of the parish and the remains of the strong towers. On the other hand, the baroque is widely implanted, both in the 17th and 18th centuries, lacking, again, more modern neoclassical testimonies. Declared as such in 2006, the Armañón Natural Park is an area of exceptional beauty in environmental interest that extends its 2,985 hectares between the municipalities of Trucíos and Valle Carranza. Between the gorges of the Carranza and Agüera rivers, a succession of rolling hills and rocky mountains make up this space dominated by the Armañón summit (854 m.) with its wide pastures and dense oak forests that cover the Los Jorrios karstic massif (837 m.). Beneath the surface there is a vast subterranean world with more than 200 cataloged caves and sinkholes resulting from the erosion of the limestone rock by rainwater.
