Salento is not just the sea.
Culture, history, gastronomy are the other elements that complete the splendid setting of the southernmost area of Puglia.
During your journey you will be able to get to know each of these characteristics, diving into the streets of some of the most beautiful cities in Italy.
The enchanting city of Lecce, the provincial capital, owes its beauty to the numerous Baroque-style buildings that dot the historic center. The legend of the foundation of Lecce has it that it was Malennio, a descendant of the mythical king Minos, who founded the city in the 13th century BC. with the name of Sybar and to introduce the refined Greek culture.
History, on the other hand, teaches that the first settlement dates back to the third millennium BC. by the Illyrians, later replaced by the indigenous Messapi. With the conquest of Magna Graecia by the Romans, which took place in the third century BC, the city changed its name to Lupiae and became an important center of southern Italy.
Just 40 kilometers from Lecce, overlooking the Ionian Sea, the "beautiful city" (this is the meaning of its name) of Gallipoli awaits you.
The historic center is located on a limestone island, connected to the new village by a bridge, the construction of which dates back to the seventeenth century. But the reason why Gallipoli is so well known and coveted are its beaches. There is something for all tastes: you can enjoy the golden sand in the wonderful cove of Spiaggia della Puritate, in correspondence with the ancient village, or rocky coves with fresh and clear water, such as those of Punta Prosciutto and Lido delle Conchiglie.
You cannot say that you have visited Salento if you leave without having lived the true experience of oil production. In addition to the production of extra virgin olive oil, Salento has always stood out for the production of lampante oil, that is, what was used to power oil lamps.
Discovering Salento, you will experience a magical and unrepeatable adventure.
You will stay in an ancient Masseria, completely renovated and equipped with every comfort, away from the noise of the city.
